My adolescence in Skorped: My adolescence in Skorped was calm and safe, but also abit dull as we were so few kids my age. All 6 years in the comprehensive school I spent in Skorpeds school, and my classmates came from the villiages of Mosjö, Djupsjö, Byvattnet and Aspeå as well as Skorped. Skorped is both the name of the parish and one of the villiages - it's sort of the centerarea with a store, a petrolstation. When I grew up there was also a postoffice, a cinema, a shop selling bikes, three stores, two cafés, a garage, a carpentry......it's all gone! I left Skorped in 1972 when I started my education at Parkskolan in Örnsköldsvik and in 1974 I moved to Kramfors. I've lived here ever since. |

Skorped parish: The settlements in both Sidensjö and Skorped had arised in the waterarea of the Nätra-river, situated between the Herman-lake at the extreme west, and the Drömme-lake at the extreme east, bordering Nätra parish. The oldest habitations in this area arised from the northern fishing- and hunting-civilizations which was prosecuted by people who during parts of the year moved up from the coast area. The churches are the oldest signs of settlements among people. In 1386 Sidensjö was mentioned as a chapel-parish under the parish of Nätra and seems to have become a parish of its own before 1527. The area around the Nätra river, between the Drömme-lake and the Djupsjö-lake, has been settled during a very long time. All the villiages of Sidensjö parish were established before 1545 - except from varius forms of spelling of the names from time to time. Eight of the 24 villiages in Skorped were established in 1535. These facts are picked from the book "Sidensjö och Skorped släkter och gårdar" written by Anna-Greta Näslund, Paul Olsson, Per Sundin and Sven Z Sundin. Unfortunatly the book is in Swedish only, still it might be of great help in finding ancestors. |

Skorped today: Skorped of today is a villiage of around 700 inhabitants, situated about 50 km east of Örnsköldsvik. The school is still active, with 59 pupils - approximately less than half of what it was in the 60:ies and 70:ies. People can still make a living in Skorped and in the center of the villiage there's a store, a hairdresser, a goldsmith and a big shop selling anything you might ever think of! The owner of the goldsmith/shop is by the way a friend of my childhood and we spent most of our days together when we were kids. Other companies in Skorped are plummer, carpenter, electrician, photographer. In Djupsjö there's a camping ground with restaurant and option to rent canoes for paddling in the Nätra river down to the coast. Besides those who makes a living in the villiages, many of the people who live in Skorped works at Hägglunds (Viecle, Drives, Mac Gregor) in Mellansel or Gullänget. Some work in the road carrier industry or the pulp industry. |
